Governance training, mentoring, and support for School Councils and Boards includes:

  • Governance training sessions tailored to your school community
    • Governance for Your School Council | Board
    • An Introduction to School Governance
    • Governance v Operational - working in partnership
  • Financial Governance training - in partnership with DET
  • Meeting mentoring and support - including guidance on running effective meetings
  • AGM attendance to explain roles and responsibilities and support compliance

All training and support is:

  • Free of charge for all NT Government schools and members
  • Contextualised, adaptable, and culturally appropriate for urban, rural, and remote communities
  • Supported by quality resources, with ongoing mentoring and follow‑up support

If your school does not have a School Council, the Education Act 2015 (NT) requires the Principal to meet with the school community each year to discuss establishing one.

We can support you by:

  • Providing resources and guidance for community discussions
  • Facilitating meetings so families can make informed decisions
  • Offering mentoring and follow‑up support for new Councils

All training and support is:

  • Supported by quality resources, with ongoing mentoring and follow‑up support

Local Engagement and Decision-Making (LEaD) Committees are advisory groups that share the views and priorities of the school community with the Principal.

An Introduction to LEaD Committee Governance session covers:

  • The role of the LEaD Committee and how it supports the school
  • Why having a voice in your school matters
  • How to have good meetings
  • School governance and decision making
