Governance training, mentoring, and support for School Councils and Boards includes:
- Governance training sessions tailored to your school community
- Governance for Your School Council | Board
- An Introduction to School Governance
- Governance v Operational - working in partnership
- Financial Governance training - in partnership with DET
- Meeting mentoring and support - including guidance on running effective meetings
- AGM attendance to explain roles and responsibilities and support compliance
All training and support is:
- Free of charge for all NT Government schools and members
- Contextualised, adaptable, and culturally appropriate for urban, rural, and remote communities
- Supported by quality resources, with ongoing mentoring and follow‑up support
If your school does not have a School Council, the Education Act 2015 (NT) requires the Principal to meet with the school community each year to discuss establishing one.
We can support you by:
- Providing resources and guidance for community discussions
- Facilitating meetings so families can make informed decisions
- Offering mentoring and follow‑up support for new Councils

Local Engagement and Decision-Making (LEaD) Committees are advisory groups that share the views and priorities of the school community with the Principal.

- School governance and decision making
