Establishing a School Body enables parents and communities to be actively involved in the decision making process for their school.
The Education Act 2015 (NT) Part 6 Parent and community involvement in government schools recognises the important roles families play in school governance and student success.
If there is no School Body established, the Principal of a government school must take reasonable steps each year to ensure that one is established.
All School Bodies, School Management Councils and Parent Consultative Groups must comply with the Education Act 2015 (NT) and the Education Regulations 2015 (NT).

Example Story: Establishing Wugularr School Council
The Wugularr School community identified the need for a School Council and worked towards establishing school governance in 2019.
Wugularr Interim School Council members worked in partnership with the community to develop their School Council Objectives in both Kriol and English, to be detailed in the Wugularr School Council Constitution. A video of their process is included below.
